How We Investigated This
Data Sources: IRS Form 990/990-EZ XML filings (11 years) via ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer, FEC campaign finance records, DOJ FARA registration database (efile.fara.gov), state corporate filings (AZ, DE, FL, CA Secretary of State offices), and Meta Transparency Reports.
Scope: 15 Form 990 XML filings parsed across Turning Point USA (NFP), Turning Point Action (501c4), Turning Point Endowment, and Turning Point Academy. 216 evidence images analyzed via OCR. 329 FARA documents reviewed.
Method: Financial data extracted from XML-formatted 990s. Insider payments identified by cross-referencing Schedule I grant recipients, Schedule G fundraiser disclosures, and Part VII/IX contractor payments against state corporate filings to identify common officers/owners. Foreign funding traced through FARA registrations and Schedule F disclosures.
Verification: All payment amounts verified against original 990 filings. Corporate ownership confirmed via state Secretary of State databases. Criminal proceedings verified via court records.
Limitations: Some evidence relies on OCR extraction from scanned documents, which may contain minor transcription errors. Post-FY2024 data not yet available. Alleged connections between entities are based on public record correlation and do not prove coordination unless noted.
Key Findings
$999,821 payment to Clocktower LLC (NV20191634597) per IRS Form 990 Schedule I, EIN 82-2853382. $19.6–$24.9M in insider-connected payments. Jake Hoffman indicted (9 felony counts, AZ fake electors).
